Here at the Village Market & Bistro, we pride ourselves on distinct flavorful food made fresh every day with the kind of service that makes you feel good. It’s comfortable. It’s friendly. It’s a place to have fun.
Village Market & Bistro offers European-American cuisine, focusing on the simplicity of fine, seasonal ingredients. Located on the corner of Loudoun and Boscawen Streets, in the heart of Old Town Winchester, our historic location has served a variety of purposes over the years. But we think it’s best as “the bistro,” with our pet friendly patio extending a welcoming hand to town residents and visitors as they stroll on the walking mall.
For eleven years, John David Smith and Joerg Eichman were partners in a horse breeding and training facility. During those years, they spent more time traveling than they had ever anticipated, following the eventing circuit here, and looking for breeding stock in Europe and the British Isles. Whether in Dundalk or Dublin, they always tried to end the day with a good meal, a glass of wine and a friendly hearth to comfort them until they were back home. And they quite often had some remarkable meals.
In 2003, they opened the Village Square Restaurant as a way to share the pleasures of their travels with local clientele. With the help of culinary maestro Daniel Kalber, a graduate of Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY, they brought that vision to life, even opening the V2 Piano Lounge and Bar in the adjacent building two years later.
In December of 2010, David, Joerg, and Daniel partnered together once more to open the Village Market & Bistro with the vision of providing a neighborhood gathering place with great food, an unbeatable selection of beer and wine, and a relaxed atmosphere.
